2025 News
27th July 2025 - SPARKY LAD 4th AT BURGHAM CCI4*-S
This was a great result for Sparky and he is now looking like the star that we always thought he was. He has overcome a whole lot of difficulties to get this far. Including colic surgery and eye surgery. Clarke has done a fantastic job to put this all together and who knows how much further he can go?! Great to see an Australian Thoroughbred successful on the world stage of eventing.
He was bred by Greg Perry of Vinery Stud. He was trained by Chris Waller and started his eventing career in Australia.
21st July 2025 - RACING IN JAPAN
I’ve just returned from an unforgettable trip to Japan to see firsthand how they’ve become world leaders in the world of horse racing. Having visited most of the major pretraining centres around the globe, I can confidently say Japan stands out in every way.
From the moment you land in Hokkaido, there's an undeniable sense that you’ve arrived in a true equine mecca. I was fortunate enough to attend the foal and yearling sales—an incredible experience made even more special by seeing Australian mares so highly valued in the Japanese market.
A standout of the trip was visiting Northern Farm, the largest breeding operation in Japan and part of the influential Shadai Group. I had the honour of spending time with Katsumi Yoshida, who leads Northern Farm, and was so generous with his insights on both breeding and training. The team there couldn’t have been more welcoming.
One of the most fascinating aspects for me was the undercover uphill gallop track—meticulously designed with a perfect surface and fully equipped with real-time video recording and playback for analysis. Truly impressive and a glimpse into the future of training facilities.
This trip was far too short. Huge thanks to Satomi Oka of Oka Bloodstock for making the visit possible, and to Emma for keeping everything running smoothly at home while I was away. I came back with plenty of photos and videos, and even more memories I’ll never forget.

11th June 2025 - MELBOURNE 3 DAY EVENT
Last week at the Melbourne 3 Day Event, I had the honour of judging the Yulong Rising Stars class alongside Wayne Roycroft — a truly inspiring showcase of recently retired thoroughbreds transitioning into their next chapter.
Huge congratulations to Annabel Archibald and the incredible Zaaki on taking out the win!
It was a pleasure to witness the talent, connection, and future potential on display. Thoroughbreds really are the ultimate athletes.

14th February 2025 - WOOTTON BASSETT AND OLE KIRK CONTINUE TO EXCEL
As we mentioned very early in the season, the progeny of Wootton Bassett and Ole Kirk were going to be stars. This has happened and it looks like it’s happening again. These stallions are far from one hit wonders. The markets for the upcoming 2yo races are dominated by Wootton Bassett and Ole Kirk and we can’t wait to see them fly.
$1.6m Wootton Bassett colt, Wodeton, rockets to Golden Slipper favouritism after brilliant Rosehill debut.
27th January 2025 - HKIS HORSES START THEIR JOURNEY TO HONG KONG
It’s that time of year again. Quarantine is coming to an end at Limitless Lodge and the team are in good form ready for a big few weeks ahead! The boys had their final trot up before loading on to the truck to the airport. All roads lead to Hong Kong.
